CHALLENGE DETAILS

Recognition & Prizes

There are three point types: Actions (5 points), Education (2 points), and Innovations (3 points).

Points will also be awarded to neighborhoods that include photos of actions claimed in the Neighborhood Challenge via email and/or social media #SRQChallenge.

*Update* Based on the point breakdown below, the top scoring neighborhoods will be recognized and receive a 4-hour Sarasota County park pavilion rental, subject to availability.

The maximum score varies by category (Green, Healthy, and Involved), but ranges between 114 to 133 points (total possible points for all three categories is 365 points). Each scorecard has four recognition levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum). A neighborhood is eligible for Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum awards at the following point levels:

15-40 PTS
BRONZE
41-75 PTS
SILVER
76-100 PTS
GOLD
101 & ABOVE PTS
PLATINUM

Is this challenge right for my neighborhood?

To see the types of programs and activities in the Sarasota County Neighborhood Challenge, please review our Resource Guide. Questions can also be sent to: neighbor@scgov.net.

Are all three scorecards required?

We invite your neighborhood to complete all three individual challenges, but your neighborhood is also welcome to complete only one or two.

Can we have more than one neighbor register?

We recommend having only one administrator or main point of contact may complete any or all of the scorecards for your neighborhood.

Program or Keyword Questions

There are bolded keywords throughout each Scorecard. These keywords are all referenced in the Resource Guide. This guide provides additional resources and links for more information and ideas to inspire green, healthy, and involved neighborhood innovation.

Email Attachments

Some scorecards require emailing documentation (such as H18. We have a guide to fruit trees throughout our neighborhood. [Email guide to neighbor@scgov.net]). Please send any such documentation to neighbor@scgov.net (subject title: [Your neighborhood] [The reference statement] Documentation (ex: Ringling Boulevard Neighborhood H18 Documentation)).

How often can I update my neighborhood's scorecard(s)?

You can update your neighborhood's scorecard as often as you would like. Please note the Challenge deadline to ensure your neighborhood's scorecard(s) is updated to meet those milestones. The next Challenge deadline is October 2, 2017.

Tracking your neighborhood's progress

Once you set up an account for your neighborhood, you will also have a link to track your neighborhood's progress from the dashboard. A graph will display your neighborhood's current score on each scorecard. Each time you log-in or access the dashboard, you can monitor your neighborhood's progress by the date of your entry and monitor your neighborhood's progress as it relates to the recognition levels of Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

Saving your neighborhood's Scorecard(s)

Please be sure to save frequently. Your login will timeout after 30 minutes of inactivity. Click the "save form" button at the bottom of each scorecard to save your neighborhood's progress at any point, and as frequently as needed.

What if I do not sign-up my neighborhood when the Challenge is launched, and therefore would have less than a year to improve my neighborhood's score(s)?

Your neighborhood can begin the Neighborhood Challenge anytime within the year period; however, the end of the Neighborhood Challenge (October 2, 2017) will remain the same for all participating neighborhoods regardless of when they begin. Actions and educational efforts from February 2, 2016 to September 30, 2017 can be used in the 2017 Challenge.

Scoring

The pilot Sarasota County Neighborhood Challenge will take place from February 2017 through September 2017. To participate, simply register your neighborhood and access each of the three scorecards.

Once your neighborhood's scorecard has been submitted, you will have the opportunity to update regularly throughout the year with the final deadline on October 2, 2017 before the Awards ceremony in the fall of 2017. Please update your neighborhood's scorecard(s) with your neighborhood's most recent improvements (can date back as far as February 1, 2016) by this deadline. Approximately one month after the Challenge deadline, your neighborhood will be notified of their official award standing.
